A PLEASING AROMA (Extravagant Worship)

(Matthew 2:11)

Matthew 2:11 ¹¹ On coming to the house, the wise men saw the child with his mother Mary, and they bowed down and worshiped him. Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold and of frankincense and of myrrh.

- GOLD was a Gift for a KING.

- FRANKINCENSE was a GIFT for __________. 

The old word: “Frankincense” means - “High ____________ Incense”.

Exodus 30:34–37 ³⁴ Then the Lord said to Moses, “Take fragrant spices… and pure frankincense… ³⁵ and make a fragrant blend of incense... It is to be salted and pure and sacred. ³⁶ Grind some of it to powder and place it in front of the ark of the covenant law in the tent of meeting, where I will meet with you. It shall be most holy to you. ³⁷ Do not make any incense with this formula for yourselves; consider it holy to the Lord.

A PLEASING AROMA: 

(Extravagant Worship)

            1. FRANKINSCENCE WAS A GIFT FOR __________.

Exodus 30:7–10 ⁷ “Aaron must burn fragrant incense on the altar every morning when he tends the lamps. ⁸ He must burn incense again when he lights the lamps at twilight so incense will burn regularly before the Lord... 

2 Corinthians 2:14–16 ¹⁴ But thanks be to God, who... uses us to spread the aroma of the knowledge of him everywhere. ¹⁵ For we are to God the pleasing aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. ¹⁶ To the one we are an aroma that brings death; to the other, an aroma that brings life.  

              2. FRANKINSCENCE WAS A ______________ GIFT.

Matthew 13:44 ⁴⁴ “The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. When a man found it, he hid it again, and then in his joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.

The Aroma of extravagant worship with Frankincense reminds us that the Stench from our ________ is being covered over with the sweet, pleasing Aroma of Jesus’ sacrifice leading to our __________________________!

2 Corinthians 5:19–20 ¹⁹ God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. ²⁰ …We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.
