THE WORLD INTO WHICH JESUS WAS BORN

HOW TO MOVE A MOUNTAIN – HERODIUM

PHARISEES:

Acts 26:5 I conformed to the strictest sect of our religion, living as a Pharisee.

Matthew 15:1–2 Then some Pharisees… came to Jesus from Jerusalem and asked, “Why do your disciples break the tradition of the elders? (That’s Oral Law) They don’t wash their hands before they eat!

ORAL LAW:

1.  Halakah - Binding Interpretation of segments of OT.

2.  Gemara - Interpretation of Halakah.

3.  Haggadah - Interpretation of Sermons spoken on Gemara.

Matthew 15:7-9 You hypocrites! Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you: “‘These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules.

Matthew 23:1-4 Then Jesus said... "the Phariseestie up heavy loads and put them on men's shoulder...”

Matthew 23:23 (NLT) you Pharisees. Hypocrites! For you are careful to tithe even the tiniest income from your herb gardens, but you ignore the more important aspects of the lawjustice, mercy, and faith. You should tithe, yes, but do not neglect the more important things.

SADDUCEES:

Matthew 22:31–32  Have you not read what God said to you, ‘I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob’? He is not the God of the dead but of the living.

John 18:31 Pilate said, “Take him yourselves and judge him by your own law.” “But we have no right to execute anyone,” they objected.

Matthew 16:1 The Pharisees and Sadducees came to Jesus and tested him by asking him to show them a sign from heaven.

- The Herodium – Herod’s Fortress (12 KM South of Jerusalem)

Matthew 2:16 When Herod realized that he had been outwitted by the Magi, he was furious, and he gave orders to kill all the boys in Bethlehem and its vicinity who were two years old and under, in accordance with the time he had learned from the Magi.

Matthew 21:1, 21-22 As they approached Jerusalem and came to… the Mount of Olives… 21 Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt… you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea (The Dead Sea),’ and it will be done. 22 If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.

Matthew 17:20 you have so little faith. Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.
