The Parent Trap   Ephesians 6:1-9   3-26-23

MEMORY VERSE:

Ephesians 6:1, 4 ¹ Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. ⁴ Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.

4 KEYS to Freedom: {O.B.E.Y.}

1.) O.BEY - your Parents 

Ephesians 6:1-3 ¹ Children, obey your parents in the Lord, for this is right. ² "Honor your father and mother"--which is the first commandment with a promise—³ "that it may go well with you and that you may enjoy long life on the earth." 

Luke 2:41–51 ⁴¹ Every year Jesus’ parents went to Jerusalem for the Festival of the Passover. ⁴² When he was twelve years old, they went up to the festival, according to the custom… ⁴⁶ After three days they found him in the temple courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them questions… ⁵¹ Then he went down to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them.

2.) B.ECOME – Enter the Process of Understanding

Philippians 2:5, 8 ⁵ Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus… ⁸ being found in appearance as a man, he humbled himself and became obedient to death-- even death on a cross! 

3.) E.XAMPLE - Set A Good One

1 Timothy 4:12 Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity. 

4.) Y.IELD – Ultimately to God 

Colossians 3:20 Children, obey your parents in everything, for this pleases the Lord. 

KIDS O.B.E.Y. & PARENTS DO IT GOD’S WAY

Ephesians 6:4 Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord. 

Colossians 3:21 Fathers, do not embitter your children, or they will become discouraged. 

Proverbs 13:24 He who spares the rod hates his son, but he who loves him is careful to discipline him. 

- PUNISHMENT is Issued out of Anger/Frustration.

- DISCIPLINE is Issued out of Love for Correction.
