THE CHANGING ROOM     (Ephesians 4:22-32)   3-5-23

Ephesians 4:17–18 (ESV) ¹⁷…you must no longer walk as the Gentiles do, in the futility of their minds. ¹⁸ They are darkened in their understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, due to their hardness of heart. 

MEMORY VERSE:

Ephesians 4:22-24 ²² You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; ²³ to be made new in the attitude of your minds;  ²⁴ and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness. 

“PUT-OFF” – OLD SELF

“PUT-ON” – NEW SELF

Romans 12:2 (ESV) Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind… 

Ephesians 4:25 Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body.

“PUT-OFF” - SPEAKING FALSEHOODS 

“PUT-ON” - SPEAKING TRUTHFULLY

Colossians 3:9 Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices.

John 8:44 the devil…is a liar and the father of lies. 

Ephesians 4:26–27 ²⁶ “In your anger do not sin”  - Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, ²⁷ and do not give the devil a foothold.

“PUT-OFF” – SELF-CENTEREDNESS 

“PUT-ON” – SELF-AWARENESS 

Ephesians 4:29 Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.

“PUT-OFF” – ROTTING WORDS

“PUT-ON” – HELPFUL WORDS

Ephesians 4:30-31 ³⁰ And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. ³¹ Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. 

“PUT-OFF” – GRIEVING THE HOLY SPIRIT

“PUT-ON” – EXTENDING GRACE TO OTHERS

Ephesians 4:30 (MSG) Don’t grieve God. Don’t break his heart. His Holy Spirit, moving and breathing in you, is the most intimate part of your life, making you fit for himself. Don’t take such a gift for granted.

 Eph. 4:32 Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.
