The Anatomy of Temptation

(2 Samuel 11)

 

 

2 Samuel 11:1-2 1 In the spring, at the time when kings go off to war, David sent Joab out with the king's men and the whole Israelite army… But David remained in Jerusalem. 2 One evening David got up from his bed and walked around on the roof of the palace. From the roof he saw a woman bathing. The woman was very beautiful.

 

 

The ANATOMY of TEMPTATION:

 

#1) If you let Temptation _______, it will LURE you 

away and ENTICE you.

 

 

James 1:14 (ESV) 14 But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire

 

 

Temptation says 3 Things: 

1. No One will ever ___________ OUT!  

2. You’re the ____________ ONE who does it!   

3. If you feed me, I’ll be ______________ & Go Away.

 

 

2 Samuel 11:3-4 3 And David sent someone to find out about her. The man said, "Isn't this Bathsheba… the wife of Uriah the Hittite?" 4 Then David sent messengers to get her. came to him, and he slept with her.

 

 

#2) If you let Temptation _________, it will CONCEIVE

James 1:14-15 (ESV) 14 But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. 15 Then desire when it has conceived gives birth to sin

 

 

 

1 Corinthians 10:13 (NASB) 13 No temptation has overtaken you but such as is common to man; and God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted beyond what you are able, but with the temptation will provide the way of escape also, so that you will be able to endure it.

2 Samuel 11:5 The woman (Bathsheba) conceived and sent word to David, saying, "I am pregnant." 

 

 

#3) If you let Temptation ___________, it will become

James 4:4–5 (NKJV) 4 Do you not know that friendship with the world is enmity with God? Whoever therefore wants to be a friend of the world makes himself an enemy of God. Or do you think that the Scripture says in vain, “The Spirit who dwells in us yearns jealously”? 

 

TRUTHS ABOUT TEMPTATION:
