Series: AFTER GOD’S OWN HEART 7-14-24
LET’S GET BUSY!
(2 Samuel 11)
TWO TYPES of SINS: COMMISSION & _____________________
2 Samuel 11:1 In the spring, at the time when kings go off to war, David sent Joab out with the king's men and the whole Israelite army. They destroyed the Ammonites and besieged Rabbah. But David remained in Jerusalem.
2 Samuel 11:2-4 2 One evening David got up from his bed and walked around on the roof of the palace. From the roof he saw a woman bathing. The woman was very beautiful, 3 and David sent someone to find out about her. The man said, "Isn't this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam and the wife of Uriah the Hittite?" 4 Then David sent messengers to get her.
HOW TO STAY BUSY:
A. GET IN THE __________________!
1. REMEMBER THE ENVIRONMENT WE’RE TO ________ IN.
Matthew 13:27-30 27 The owner's servants came to him and said, “Sir, didn't you sow good seed in your field? Where then did the weeds come from?” 28 "An enemy did this,” he replied. "The servants asked him, 'Do you want us to go and pull them up?” 29 "No,” he answered, “because while you are pulling the weeds, you may root up the wheat with them. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest."
THE KEY IS: Insulation, not _________________!
2. REMEMBER THE PEOPLE WE’RE TO __________________.
Matthew 9:11-12 11 When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, "Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and 'sinners'?” 12 On hearing this, Jesus said, "It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. But go and learn what this means: 'I desire mercy, not sacrifice.'”
3. REMEMBER THE FUNCTION WE’RE TO ________________.
Matthew 5:14-16 14 You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.
“People don’t care how much we ____________, until they know
how much we ____________!”
B. LEARN THEIR _________________!
1 Cor. 9:20-23 (NCV) To the Jews I became like a Jew to win the Jews…to those who are without the law I became like a person who is without the law… to those who are weak I became weak so I could win the weak. I have become all things to all people so I could save some of them in any way possible. I do all this because of the Good News and so I can share in its blessings.
TWO QUESTIONS TO ASK:
#1 ASK: What do I have in ________________ with them?
1 Cor. 9:22-23 (LB) “Whatever a person is like, I try to find common ground with him so that he will let me tell him about Christ and let Christ save him. I do this to get the Gospel to them and also for the blessing I myself receive when I see them come to Christ.”
Mark 4:33 (MES) With many stories like these, he presented his message to them, fitting the stories to their experience and maturity.
#2 ASK: What are their interests, needs, and ____________?
- Sam Williams, “Evangelism is helping people discover how God is already at work in their lives.”
People are More Likely to Follow Jesus when they are
“Under CRISIS” or “In ___________________”.
