LA LAW

(Romans 6:14-23)

Romans 6:14-15 …you are not under law, but under grace. ¹⁵ What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means! (Gk: me genoito!)

Hebrews 8:7–13 ⁷ For if there had been nothing wrong with that first covenant, no place would have been sought for another… ¹⁰ This is the covenant I will establish with the people of Israel… declares the Lord. I will put my laws in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people… ¹² For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.” ¹³ By calling this covenant “new,” he has made the first one obsolete…

IV. COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS:

1. God is a ____________________ Judge

Romans 6:16-18 ¹⁶ Don't you know that when you offer yourselves to someone to obey him as slaves, you are slaves to the one whom you obey--whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness? ¹⁷ But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin... ¹⁸ You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness. 

2. Grace gives me a __________ to do whatever I want

Romans 6:14-19 ¹⁴ For sin shall not be your master, because you are not under law, but under grace. ¹⁵ What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means!... ¹⁹ Just as you used to offer the parts of your body in slavery to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer them in slavery to righteousness leading to holiness…

Galatians 3:1-3 ¹ You foolish Galatians!... ² Did you receive the Spirit by observing the law, or by believing what you heard? ³ Are you so foolish? After beginning with the Spirit, are you now trying to attain your goal by human effort?

Romans 6:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.
