FINDING COMFORT:

Matthew 5:4 4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

Psalm 38:18 18 I confess my iniquity; I am troubled by my sin.

2 Corinthians 7:8–10 (ESV) For even if I made you grieve with my letter, I do not regret it—though I did regret it, for I see that that letter grieved you, though only for a while. As it is, I rejoice, not because you were grieved, but because you were grieved into repenting. For you felt a godly grief... 10 For godly grief produces a repentance that leads to salvation without regret, whereas worldly grief produces death

  • GRIEVE” = To be Sad or Sorrowful
  • REGRET” = To Change One’s Mind without Repentance.
  • REPENTANCE” “metanoia = a 180 Degree Change of Mind & Life

  • Metamélomai – Changing One’s Mind after having Done something regrettable, but with NO effective change of heart. There is only a Selfish Dread of the Consequence.

            - Contrasted with…

  • Metanoéō - Involves Regret Accompanied by a True Change of Heart Toward God.

  • One Carries with it the Promise of

           and the Other DOES NOT!

Hebrews 12:15–17 (ESV) 15 See to it that no one is… 16 unholy like Esau, who sold his birthright for a single meal. 17 For you know that afterward, when he desired to inherit the blessing, he was rejected, for he found no chance to repent (“Metanoia”), though he sought it with tears

James 5:13–16 13 Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray… 15 If they have sinned, they will be forgiven. 16 Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed

  • If you’re looking for FORGIVENESS, PRAY                                                                        !
  • If you’re looking for HEALING, TELL                                                                    !

EXTENDING MERCY:

Matthew 5:7 Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy.

Proverbs 28:13 13 Whoever conceals their sins does not prosper, but the one who confesses and renounces them finds mercy

  • CONFESS” = “Homologeo”

(Homo: the Same; Logeo: in Agreement with, Consent)

(“To say the same thing about your sin God does!”)

  • RENOUNCE” = To Leave or Abandon (YOUR SIN).
  • True Repentance is Being so Sorry for your Sin that you’re

Willing to                                                               !

Matthew 18:23-35 (MSG) The kingdom of God is like a king who decided to square accounts with his servants…

  • GRACE: is GETTING Something you DON’T
  • MERCY: is NOT GETTING Something you DO
