Series: Living on Purpose 9-28-25
The Heart Of Worship
Revelation 4:11 (NLT) You created everything, and it is for your pleasure that they exist and were created.
MY 1st purpose IN LIFE is to ___________________________.
Matthew 22:37-38 (NIV) Love the Lord your God... This is the first and greatest commandment.
Romans 12:1 (NIV) in view of God’s mercy, offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God—this is your true and proper worship.
Romans 12:1 (Phillips) With eyes wide open to the mercies of God,
- Worship is my ____________________ to God’s love.
- Worship is giving _________________ to God.
1 John 4:19 (NIV) 19 We love because he first loved us.
Mark 12:30 (NIV) 30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.
FOUR WAYS TO GIVE:
- THOUGHTFULLY – “love Him with your mind.”
- __________________ – “with all your heart.”
- AUTHENTICALLY – “with all your soul.”
- __________________ – “with all your strength”
4 THINGS GOD DOESN’T HAVE:
- Your ATTENTION, unless you give it to Him. (your Mind)
- Your __________________, unless you give it to Him. (your Heart)
- Your AUTHENTICITY, unless you give it to Him. (your Soul)
- Your ______________, unless you give it to Him. (your Strength)
- Whenever you take the things God has given to you, and you give them back to God, that’s the heart of ____________________.
WORSHIP IS WHEN I…
1. FOCUS MY ________________________ ON GOD.
(“with your MIND”)
- Worship is focusing my mind’s attention and my heart’s ____________________ on God.
TWO DISTRACTIONS:
- We are self-centered by __________________.
Romans 8:7 (MSG) Focusing on yourself is the opposite of focusing on God. Anyone completely absorbed in self ignores God, and ends up thinking more about self than God.
- We live in a self-centered __________________.
Romans 12:2 (MSG) Don’t become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention on God.
TWO SUGGESTIONS:
- Establish a daily _________________ with God.
Matthew 6:6, (MSG) Find a quiet secluded place, so you won’t be tempted to role-play before God. Just be there as simply and honestly as you can manage. The focus will shift from you to God, and you will begin to sense His grace.
“place” - You’ve got to find a place. You can worship God anywhere.
“simply” - No ceremony, no fancy words. just talk with God.
“honestly” - Be yourself, don’t try to be spiritual, just get to know God better.
- Develop a ___________________ conversation with God.
Psalm 105:4 (ESV) 4 Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually!
(NIV - seek his face always.)
2. EXPRESS MY _________________________ TO GOD.
(“with your HEART”)
Hosea 6:6 (LB) 6“I don’t want your sacrifices—I want your love; I don’t want your offerings—I want you to know me.
- The most important thing you can KNOW in life is that God loves you.
- The most important thing you can DO in life is to _________________.
Exodus 34:14 (NLT) the Lord… is a God who is jealous about his relationship with you.
2 Samuel 6:13–15 (NIV) 13 When those who were carrying the ark of the Lord had taken six steps, he sacrificed a bull and a fattened calf. 14 Wearing a linen ephod, David was dancing before the Lord with all his might… 15 with shouts and the sound of trumpets. (All as acts of worship!)
3. AM BEING ____________________ WITH GOD.
(“with your SOUL”)
Luke 12:2 (MSG) You can't keep your true self hidden forever; before long you'll be exposed. You can't hide behind a religious mask forever; sooner or later the mask will slip and your true face will be known.
John 15:13 (NIV) Greater love has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.
Ephesians 5:1–2 (NIV) 1 Be imitators of God… 2 and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us...
- “You can GIVE without _________, but you can’t LOVE without ___________.”
Romans 12:9 (NIV) Love must be sincere.
- “Sincere” – inexperienced in the art of acting, one without hypocrisy,
undisguised.
4. USE MY ____________________ FOR GOD.
(“with your STRENGTH”)
Colossians 3:23 (NIV) Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men,
Romans 12:1 (MSG) Take your everyday, ordinary life – your sleeping, your eating, your going to work, your walking-around life – and place it before God as an Offering.
